Moyne Community School photography class 2011/2012

Moyne Community School was founded in 1973 and was one of the first community schools built in Ireland.

The school is a multi-denominational, co-educational school with first class modern facilities. It has always been renowned for its warm friendly atmosphere and the relationship of mutual respect that exists between teachers and pupils.

The school offers a comprehensive range of subjects and a wide range of programmes. These include Junior and Leaving Certificate courses as well as Transition Year, Leaving Certificate Applied Programme and the Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme. The formal curriculum is complemented by a wide range of extra curricular and sporting activities that are offered at lunch time and after school.

The Transition Year Programme endeavours to provide an interesting, diverse and challenging formal and informal educational experience that will ‘enable the students and staff to develop their full potential'. It does this in partnership with the staff, the students, the parents and guardians as well as members of the local communities, work providers and statutory bodies. It aspires to facilitate the maturation process of the students and to build their self esteem and self worth in a way that will encourage them to embrace the opportunities that the programme will afford them in an open and respectful manner. In this way the students will be assisted to become socially aware, to improve their communication skills and to develop as competent young adults.
